Getting from NYC to Southampton – Saturday, July 19, 2025

Travel Date: Saturday, July 19, 2025 (weekend summer schedule) – Below are two public transit options from New York City to Southampton, NY, with outbound times from NYC and same-day return options. Both the Hampton Jitney (coach bus) and the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) provide service to Southampton on summer weekends.

Hampton Jitney (Coach Bus Service)

Outbound Schedule (NYC → Southampton): The Hampton Jitney’s Montauk Line runs frequent trips on summer Saturdays. For example, a morning Jitney departs Manhattan around 8:00 AM, arriving at Southampton by ~10:00 AMhamptonjitney.com. Additional departures run roughly every 30–60 minutes through the morning (e.g. a 9:00 AM bus arriving ~11:00 AM)hamptonjitney.com. Buses leave from Manhattan’s East Side (e.g. 40th St & Lexington Ave or designated Uptown stops) and go directly to Southampton with no transfers needed.
Travel Duration: Approximately 2 to 2.5 hours travel time, depending on traffic and departure time. Early morning buses can be closer to 2 hours, while mid-day trips might take up to ~2.5 hours (heavier summer traffic)hamptonjitney.com. All buses are coach-style with air conditioning (and usually Wi-Fi and a restroom on board).
Fare: $41 one-way (online reservation) or $49 if paying on boardblade.com. (No peak/off-peak differentiation for the Jitney; the price is the same on weekends.) Hampton Jitney offers an Ambassador premium service at higher cost, but the standard line fare is $41 each way with an advance booking. Discounts are available via prepaid ticket packs for frequent travelersblade.com, but for a one-off trip the single fare applies.

Long Island Rail Road (LIRR)
- Outbound Schedule (NYC → Southampton): The LIRR’s Montauk Branch trains run to Southampton on weekends year-round, with enhanced service in summermta.info. On Saturday, July 19, 2025, a morning train from NYC will get you out to the Hamptons. For example: one Saturday morning train (requiring a transfer at Jamaica) departs Penn Station around 7:45 AM, with a connection at Jamaica around 8:20 AM, and arrives at Southampton at ~10:15 AM There are a few trains each day – typically another late morning/early afternoon departure as well. (Schedules vary, so it’s best to check the MTA’s TripPlanner for exact times on July 19.) Note: Nearly all Hamptons-bound trains require a transfer at Jamaica Station to the Montauk Branch trainmta.info. The transfer is easy (usually just changing across the platform) and the second train is a double-decker diesel train for the East Endmta.info. There is no additional transfer needed in Southampton – you’ll get off at Southampton station.
- Travel Duration: Approximately 2.5–3 hours from Penn Station to Southampton by LIRR. The ride from Jamaica to Southampton alone is about 2 hours plus ~15–20 minutes from Manhattan to Jamaica and a short layover to change trains. Overall travel time for the morning train is around 2 hours 30 minutes. (Schedules are adjusted seasonally; summer trains may be a bit longer due to high ridership, but the MTA adds extra trains/cars in summer to accommodate demand.) Trains are comfortable and air-conditioned, with restrooms on board.
- Fare: All Southampton/Montauk Branch stations are in LIRR Zone 14mta.info. The one-way off-peak fare (which applies all day Saturday) is $23.50 from NYC (Zone 1) to Southamptonmta.info. If you were traveling on a weekday rush-hour it would be $31.75 peakmta.info, but weekend travel is off-peak. You can buy tickets as one-way or round-trip; a round-trip simply equals two one-way fares. (There are also 10-trip off-peak tickets for groups or future use, but for most attendees a single round-trip will do.)
- Ticket Purchase: LIRR tickets can be purchased via the MTA TrainTime app or website in advance, or at vending machines/ticket windows at Penn Station, Grand Central Madison, or Jamaica. It’s recommended to buy your ticket before boarding to save time (and avoid an on-board purchase surcharge). The MTA notes that buying round-trip ahead of time is wise to avoid linesmta.info. Use the MTA’s online schedule toolmta.info or TrainTime to look up the July 19 train times and to purchase e-tickets. (No seat reservations are needed – LIRR is commuter rail, open seating.)
